'Dragon' handed player of the year title

Poker pro David "The Dragon" Pham has clinched this year's Card Player Poker Player of the Year (POY) award despite some stiff competition. The title was handed over to the skilled player after he beat off numerous competitors at the World Poker Tournament Five Diamond World Poker Classic NL Holdem Event 8 tournament.Card Player Media chief Barry Shulman said: "The POY point system is based on poker tournament finishes throughout the year and is a benchmark used throughout the poker industry to measure accomplishments on the felt.

"We at Card Player Media would like to congratulate David Pham for his exceptional accomplishment."

Judges were said to be impressed with David's 2007 performance, which included 18 in the money finishes, 11 final tables and four events won including the $5,000 (£2,500) heads-up event at the Mirage Poker Showdown.

Over the year, he pocketed more than $1.8 million through playing poker games across the world.
