The Finish of the GBPT Edinburgh Leg
4th March, 2008
The first leg of the Great British Poker Tour was held last weekend in Edinburgh, as 175 players descended upon the capital.
The attendees included Eddie Gaines, the defending champion, as well as Barny Boatman, Joe Beevers and snooker pro John Higgins.
Higgins finished on the final table in tenth place leaving the remaining players to contest for the £93,000 prize pool. These were the remaining nine standings and chip counts:
- R. Lapwood – 557,100
- C. Wu – 310,200
- R. Mathews – 254,600
- R. Yiltalo – 210,500
- P. Scott – 114,300
- M. Greenwood – 104,200
- J. Lynch – 93,100
- A. Findlay – 55,600
- J. Coonan – 46,800
Early casualties in the following contest were Findlay, Greenwood and Lynch and chips were moving in and out of the stacks fairly evenly until Colin Wu took a huge chunk form former chip leader Richard Lapwood.
By the following morning only three were left: Colin Wu, Robin Yiltalo and online poker star Rory Mathews. These three came to an early agreement. They shared the prize money and, on account of his chip lead, Colin Wu was crowned champion and progresses through to the GBPT Grand Final at the end of the year.
The final standings and prize winnings were as follows:
- C. Wu - £20,500
- R. Yiltalo - £20,500
- R. Mathews - £20,500
- P. Scott - £7,300
- R. Lapwood - £5,100
- J. Coonan - £3,250
- J. Lynch - £2,800
- M. Greenwood - £2,300
- A. Findlay - £1,850
The next leg is in Nottingham, which is slowly becoming the UK capital of poker, on April 16th and a much larger turnout is expected, further establishing the GBPT 2008.
