US-based operator offers first WSOP seat
4th April, 2008
American online gaming house PurePlay has awarded one its first qualifying seat at the World Series of Poker (WSOP).
Over 30,000 gamers competed for the $10,000 (£5,000) seat at the poker championship, with Gregory Jacob Kremer of Sun City West, Arizona ultimately taking home the prize.
Commenting after his win, Mr Kremer said: "It's amazing to win a seat to play for millions of dollars without risking any of my own money! Now I can test my poker skills against the world's best in competition at the highest level."
PurePlay has a patented business model which allows US customers to compete for cash without ever fronting their own money, thus bypassing legislation banning online poker in the States.
While this unique approach to poker games means that prizes and odds of winning are lower than in other gaming houses, the operator has confirmed it will give away seats every month in the run up to the WSOP.
"Our first tournament in March was by far the biggest, most competitive event we have ever hosted," said PurePlay chief executive Jason Kellerman. "We are looking forward to even bigger turnouts in April, May and June. Then our winners are off to Vegas."
