WPC prepares for Canada, Netherlands showdown
7th May, 2008
Canada and the Netherlands look set to go head-to-head in the final of the 888.com World Poker Crown (WPC).
While the tournament does not actually pit nationalities against each other, seven of the ten finalists at the event are nationals of either Canada or the Netherlands.
The final poker table has been whittled down from some 2,200 contestants and with a colossal $3 million (£1.5 million) up for grabs national rivalries are certain to run high.
Each of the finalists is being jetted off to the Peralada Castle in Spain where they will rack up for the last time tomorrow to determine who walks away with the $1 million first-place prize.
The Canadians vying for glory are Jack Hinchey, Michael Lawson, Mark Castonguay and Michael Leah - while the Netherlands' contingent comes in the form of Bart Wetsteijn, Arjan van Bavel and Gijsbert van Doesburg.
Poker enthusiasts hailing from Poland, Italy and Germany make up the remaining three contestants.
