WPT Ladies reverses donation policy

The World Poker Tour Ladies Championship (WPT Ladies) has succumbed to pressure from some of the poker world's leading female players over its automatic donation policy.
Susie Isaacs and a host of other prominent figures had sharply criticised tournament organisers for arranging an automatic 15 per cent donation from the prize pool, intended to benefit the Susan G Komen for the Cure breast cancer charity.
Opponents of the goodwill move noted that the buy-in for the WPT Ladies ($1,500 or £750) is just a fraction of that for the Main Event ($25,000 or £12,500) and they argued the forced donation amounted to discrimination against female competitors.
As a result, WPT Enterprises chairman Lyle Berman has now confirmed the donation policy has been re-evaluated.
Commenting on her successful boycott of the Texas Hold'Em series, Ms Isaacs wrote in her blog: "I am no longer sad [about not playing] in the WPT Ladies Championship. It was worth it. I believe that the efforts of a group of women, from coast-to-coast, have made a big difference for the future of ladies poker tournaments."
