WSOP-C Final Table
29th February, 2008
The final table at the World Series of Poker Circuit Ring at the Council Bluffs casino, started with Michael Martin as the chip leader. He remained chip leader all the way through the Texas Hold'Em tournament to the heads up matching at the end of the day.
First to be eliminated was day one’s chip leader Howard Wolper, who started the final table knowing that his short chip stack would not last long, wasted no time in getting hid chips on the table. He raised Michael Martin quickly who called with a pair of threes. The river then saw Wolper lose out and leave the tournament in ninth place. Similar action ended the day for Ron Koenemann, betting too much against Bernard Lee. He was then followed by Dan Jenson in seventh place.
The day continued with pre-flop betting and confrontations, next seeing off Samuel Shamburg then Keith Murrel. Now only four players remained and Bernard Lee came from behind to be second in chips only for him to lose out to Michael Martin and finish in fourth. He was soon followed by the third place finisher, Nicholas Manganaro, who was satisfied taking home over $50,000.
The start of the heads up play saw Michael Martin with a small chip lead against Ben Hock. Small pot winnings allowed hock to quickly take the lead but it was nearly 90 minutes later when the last hand of the day gave him the win. Martin went all in, hoping for a flush and Hock called with two pairs, 10’s and 6’s. The final card came, it wasn’t a heart, and Martin did not get his flush.
Second place Michael Martin took home over $90,000 but eventual winner Ban Hock was awarded $169,327 as well as entry into the World Series of Poker Main Event this summer.
