WSOP Commences

Yesterday, at the Horseshoe Casino, Iowa, 99 players started in the World Series of Poker Championship Circuit ring (WSOP-C), all playing for a seat at the World Series of Poker Main Event.
Out of the 99 participants, there was a grand total of one female player, Lou Merwick, who qualified through two satellite heats. Lou, unfortunately busted mid way through the day, as did many others. By the end of the night only 27 players remained with Howard Walper gaining the chip lead.
Other notable players in the tournament are Brandon Cantu, Bob Slezak and Bernard Lee, who finished the day in a healthy ninth place. The top ten standings after day 1 look like this:
