WSOP: Who Is King Of The Online Poker Generation?

The World Series of Poker bracelet isnt just a piece of jewelry; its much more than that. Players are ranked by them, with their careers defined by how many bracelets they manage to accumulate.

However a new generation of player is entering the poker arena. The online generation of poker players hasnt yet attained the same amount of WSOP bracelets as their predecessors, but they are now beginning to dominate the game.

Chris Moneymakers run through the 2003 WSOP Main event marked the shift in the generations. He earned his seat for the Main Event by playing satellites at PokerStars making him the first winner to come from the online game. Since, floods of players have followed in his footsteps including Greg Raymer in 2004 and last years champion, Joe Cada.

Since Moneymakers ground breaking win poker has exploded meaning that tournaments which drew 100 players 10yrs ago now draws 1,000 today. For example, Jennifer Harman won her first bracelet by beating 29 when last year Joe Cada had to beat 6,494!

Since the arrival of the online generation to the live poker scene the top of the leader board for bracelet winners has gone cold with only Phil Ivey managing to add more than two bracelets to his collection since 2003.

So the next question is if Phil Hellmuth (11 bracelets) Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan (10 bracelets each) were the leaders of the past generation, who is the king of the online generation? Lisandro could be a candidate however Phil Ivey is generally considered as the best in the world.

Phil Iveys poker accomplishments really are staggering. At the age of 34 he has won 7 WSOP bracelets, cash in 36 events, final tabled 22, won a WPT title and was 2006 Bluff magazines player of the year. He has taken home nearly $13million and is a dominant online player too.

Ivey has crossed over to the online world while the legends of poker play on making him one of the dominant forced of the online generation. The so called Tiger Woods of poker is continuing to show his expertise while he leads the next generation.
