WSOP prize winner speaks out
2nd April, 2008
A 38-year-old high school teacher who bagged a $12,500 (£6,300) prize package for the World Series of Poker at Full Tilt has spoken of his delight at winning the seat.
Matt Krambeer told pokerlistings.com that his biggest previous wins were $3,500 at the Iowa State Poker Championships and $1,800 at an $11 buy-in tournament over at PokerStars.
He said he therefore didn't hold too much hope of winning the WSOP freeroll qualifier - even logging into his online poker account late after having had a last-minute change of plans.
Joining a 135-person playing field, the poker enthusiast said he was lucky to hit a couple of favourable draws and that the game stepped up a notch as player numbers dwindled.
"Once the play got down to the final 30-40 players, I thought the play was very good," he told the website. "There were some bad beats and bluffs that didn't work out for people, but that is part of the game."
After holding his own for hours of play and finally coming out on top to secure a seat and the world's most famous poker event, the teacher said: "It is obviously a dream of every poker player
It will be a challenge, but I look forward to it."
