WSOPE, Event 3 - £10,000 NLHE : The Battle Commences

The Main Event of the World Series of Poker Europe commenced on Tuesday, from players coming from all over the world to London for the £10 000 No Limit Hold’em tournament. Former WSOP champions, online superstars and internet qualifiers all lined up for their shot at the gold bracelet in an event so large that one casino couldn't hold all the action. Players were divided up among three different card rooms to accommodate the crowds, The Sportsman, The Fifty and The Empire.

Phil Hellmuth made a bold entrance by riding a red double-decker bus to the tournament with 11 beauties by his side, one for each of his WSOP bracelets. After his first day he found himself at the top end of the leader board. There was some early impressive table draws, with Gus Hansen, Farzad Bonyadi, Brandon Adams, Liz Lieu, and John Juanda all on the starting day.

Brenes caught a king on the flop knocking the Italian out of the tournament. As the day was closing the familiar faces began to emerge at the top of the pile. Gary Jones and Jennifer Harman finished near the top of leader boards. Annette 'Annette_15' Obrestad also finished up in a strong position after Day 1 contributing to the growing list of internet stars that are finding success in the live tournaments. Janna Lamsa gathered a total of 115,850 in chips to grasp the lead after day 1. Other players who finished Day 1 in good position included Greg Raymer, David 'Devilfish' Ulliott, Annie Duke, Erik Seidel and Barry Greenstein.
