Warne has poker deal 'in the pipeline'
9th January, 2008
Top Aussie bowler Shane Warne, has expressed his commitment to poker and how it is likely to see him move away from his cricketing career.
Writing in the Times, the sportsman admitted that there is a "deal in the pipeline with a poker company" which will see him travelling to different countries throughout the year.
This, he says, is likely to affect many of his cricket matches - including the upcoming Twenty20 Cup campaign which he is missing to take part in the World Series in Las Vegas.
Warne has long been a fan of poker and in 2006 raised more than $500,000 (£250,000) by organising a charity tournament.
"I definitely want to go to Las Vegas and I have not played Twenty20 for the past few seasons," Warne said.
"It has always come at an ideal time to take a break. I am 38 and, after 20 or so years in the game, I need a rest at some point during a six-month campaign."
