Women's Poker Hall of Fame to welcome first members
8th January, 2008
The first members of the Women's Poker Hall of Fame are set to be inducted next month at a special awards ceremony in Las Vegas.
Online gambling and an increase in the number of casinos opening across the globe has seen a boom in the popularity of poker, and many of today's players are female.
This increase in the number of women players has prompted the introduction of the Women in Poker Hall of Fame, which has being set up by the Ladies International Poker Series (Lips) Tour.
"There are many amazing women who have blazed the trail for women to enter this predominately male venue," said Lupe Soto, who originally launched the Lips.
"We want to honour them for their contributions and talents in the poker world with the creation of the Women in Poker Hall of Fame."
Held at Binion's Casino on February 2nd, the event will see the induction of four top poker players; Marsha Waggoner, Barbara Enright, Susie Isaacs and Linda Johnson.
Lips was first founded in 2004 and is now welcomed in more than 40 host casinos across the US as well as a number of home leagues.
