World Cup of Poker
12th September, 2007
The World Cup is a team event, and the final is where strength in depth comes into play. Team captains are required to make at least three substitutions, ensuring at least four of their five players have at least an hour around the felt. The competition is now over and Team USA have won. But it wasn't all smooth sailing for the Yanks, who appeared to be in trouble in the early stages but recovered well. The Canadian team headed by Daniel Negreanu were the first to be bundled out of the final, leaving the US team of Raymer, Tyler Netter, Randy Principe, John Kenlan and Shaun Deeb to finish off the remaining two competing teams. Deeb closed the deal of the Americans when he busted Crisitian Tardea of Team Romania in the final heat. Cristian Tardea reraised a preflop raise with his J8 only to face Deeb’s geniune hand of AQ, no miracles came for Romania and the new World Cup winners were decided
Final results: 1st: UNITED STATES $100,000 ($20,000 per person) 2nd: ROMANIA $60,000 ($12,000 per person) 3rd: ICELAND $40,000 ($8,000 per person) 4th: CANADA $20,000 ($4,000 per person)
