World Poker Tour Shortened

20th February, 2008

Recently, the website for the World Poker Tour has revealed that the tournament will be cut down from this year’s twenty events to only fourteen next season. All the remaining events will be played in North America with only one outside of the United States.

The following events will be not be returning for Season 7: The Mirage Showdown (Las Vegas) The Turks and Caicos Poker Classic Mandalay Bay Championships (Las Vegas) Spanish Championships (Barcelona) The World Poker Open (Tunica) The World Poker Challenge (Reno) The World Poker Tour Ladies Night

The founder, CEO and president of the World Poker Tour, Mr. Steve Lipscomb, said: “Mostly what went into our decision has lots to do with the market” commenting that players tell them where they prefer to play either verbally or through their betting. “We’re trying to be mindful of places that people really want to go, where they want to play and the properties that really have the resources to be able to manage the substantial events.

Due to these cut backs, players will all be flocking to the remaining fourteen locations for the tournament, beginning in Las Vegas on July 11th 2008 and finally finishing up back in Vegas on April 18th 2009.

In the current season of the World Poker Tour, the most recent win was by Gavin Griffin who won $1,375,609 at the Borgata Winter Open in Atlantic City. There are five events left in the season before players can have a month off before the shortened Season 7 commences.
