World Poker Tour Won by Mike Vela

14th November, 2007

The 2007 World Poker Tour took place at the Foxwoods Resort and casino. Six players sat down at 5pm to battle it out for the first prize of $1,704,986

Here is how things looked at the start of play:

Seat 1: Nenad Medic – 555,000

Seat 2: Mike Vela – 4,155,000

Seat 3: Mark Weitzman – 855,000

Seat 4: Mike White – 2,455,000

Seat 5: Nick Schulman – 4,395,000

Seat 6: Tom Dwan – 4,875,000

The first player to be eliminated was Mark Weitzman. Medic raised 200,000 from the button and Weitzman moved all in, in which Weitzman considered for a while and then called. Medic showed down Ah-5h. Weitzman showed Ac-3h Medic made a flush on the river eliminating Weitzman in sixth place who received $189,142 for his efforts.

Vela knocked out White in fifth place with a K-T against a 7-6. A king o the turn took the win for to Vela. Vela shortly after also knocked out Tom Dwan in fourth place, holding K-J against A-K, Vela got lucky and caught a jack on the river.

Again Vela knocked out Medic in third place who had moved all in with A-7, Vela was holding A-J. A jack came on the turn this time and the defending champion was done.

This meant that Vela was starting heads up against 2005 WPF champion Nick Schulman with a huge chip lead and it take long for it to be all wrapped up.

Schulman moved all-in with pocket fives and vela called with his A-Q. Vela flopped two pair and nothing from the turn or river could save Schulman. Schulman took home $864,652 for his efforts.
