World Poker Tour adds Spanish stop

10th April, 2008

The World Poker Tour (WPT) will once again have a stop-over in Spain, tournament organisers have confirmed.

Steve Lipscomb, WPT founder and president, said that Casino Barcelona will be hosting the Spanish leg of the tour between May 21st and 27th.

"The WPT Spanish Championship was a great success last year," Mr Lipscomb affirmed. "We are honoured to extend our partnership with Grup Peralada and return to Spain with a regional tour stop that Catalonians can call their own."

The Texas Hold'Em tournament is expected to draw more than 400 players, including new face of the WPT Poker Made Millionaire, Antonio Esfandiari.

That expected turnout is almost double that of the 2007 event, which took place in October and attracted a more-modest 226 participants - among them a number of big-name poker players, including Gus Hansen, Isabelle Mercier and Erik Seidel.

With a buy-in of 7,500 euro (£6,000), the first-place prize reached 537,000 euros and was won Austrian Markus Lehmann.
