World Poker Tour lands in Spain

15th May, 2008

The second World Poker Tour (WPT) Spanish Championship will be held at Casino Barcelona next week.

One of Europe's most popular and respected tournament directors, Thomas Kremser, has been commissioned to oversee the championship, which will run between May 21st and May 27th.

Events will include the super satellite No Limit Texas Hold'em, which gives poker enthusiasts the chance to earn a seat at the Main Event for a buy-in of just 200 euros + 20 euros (£160+£16).

Direct entrants to WPT Spain's flagship tournament will have to fork out a sizable 5,000 euros + 300 euros for their seat, meanwhile, and with a number of professional poker players signing up the competition is expected to be stiff.

Among the hopefuls will be former WPT champ Antonio 'The Magician' Esfandiari, who said: "Since the moment I left Barcelona two years ago, I have waited for the opportunity to return."

"It is such a beautiful city with incredible history," he continued. "You couldn't ask for a better backdrop for an international WPT tournament. The Spanish Championship drew a tough field last year, and I expect the competition to be even bigger and better this Season."
