World Poker Tour rolls into Reno
26th March, 2008
The Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada is playing host to the latest leg of the World Poker Tour (WPT).
Buy-ins for this year's World Poker Challenge have risen by some 50 per cent to $7,500 (£3750) but the Texas Hold'Em event is expected to retain its popularity among the series' professional players.
In spite of its ongoing popularity, WPT organisers recently announced that the Reno leg of the tour has been withdrawn from the next year's 7th season schedule.
Last year the Challenge proved to be a landmark-occasion for Vietnamese-born JC Tran, who at last succeeded in turning a final table appearance at the event into a win.
Prior to his victory, JC had made it to a WPT final poker table on four separate occasions, only to fall at the final hurdle every single time.
The 2008 World Poker Challenge is expected to have similarly-sized cash prizes to last year's event, where all six finalists walked away with six-figure sums ranging from $113,913 to $683,473.
