Poker TV hits the UK with Party Poker at its side

The new poker TV series produced by Matchroom Poker, Premier League Poker begins filming late this month in Kent, UK. Among the 12 poker players headlining the tournament is Phil Hellmuth. Hellmuth said of the event; "I love the UK and feel at home there, so I am really looking forward to 'Premier League Poker.' It's always challenging to match wits with the world's best poker players but I'm coming for the title -- make no mistake about that!"

The series will be sponsored by Poker Giants Party Poker and will be aired on channel 4 in the UK. The participants in the show will be competing for a whopping n the $500,000 in prize money.

The line up not only includes Phil Hellmuth, the ten time World Series of Poker bracelet winner, but also includes Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott, Andy Black, Kiril Gerasimov, Liz Lieu, Ian Fraser, Roland De Wolfe, Vicky Coren, Juha Helppi, Kenna James, Eddy Scharf, and WSOP Captain, Tony G.

The tournament's format will be similar to the hit US TV series Poker Superstars. The main differences in the format though, are that the twelve players will have to compete six times in the first part of the tournament. The winning 4 will go straight to the six player final table and the winner will claim the jackpot. The last 2 spots on the final table will be decided by a series of heads up matches.

Each player will have to stump up the $20K entry fee to the tournament. Party Poker will chip in with a cool $260K to make the final prize find total. A Party spokesman said of the tournament, "Premier League Poker is an exciting new concept and is sure to make great television. The interest from pros on both sides of the Atlantic has been excellent."
