Annie Duke graduated from Columbia University with a double major in English and Psychology. She was awarded an NSF Fellowship and then attended grad school at Pennsylvania University, studying cognitive psychology and majoring in Psycholinguistics. Duke then left in 1992, following 5 years in Pennsylvania.

Her brother is the well known poker player Howard Lederer, who taught her everything she knows about the game. She prefers the high ring games at the Bellagio to tournaments, although she does compete. She has played in a few ladies only events, but said of them “poker is one of the only sports where a woman can compete on a totally equal footing with a man, so I don’t understand why there’s a ladies only tournament.” The vocal Phil Hellmuth once described Annie as the best all round female poker player in the world.

Duke also mentors Ben Affleck after taking over from Amir Vahedi. Affleck went on to win the No Limit $10K California State Poker Championship at the Commerce Casino in 2004. Annie’s personal accomplishments include a WSOP gold bracelet in 2004. She also won the ESPN 2004 World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions, winning $2 million. total live tournament winnings currently stand at $3,300,000.
