When the communists took over in the 1970s, his family escaped to Thailand where they spent four years in a refugee camp. He lost a brother and sister while living in the camp. Jerry only started playing poker 2 years ago and had little history on the poker scene till he won the WSOP. Jerry played the WSOP very aggressively and knocked all but one player on the final table. “I had a strategy…..The only way that I could win this tournament was by being aggressive from the very beginning and that’s exactly what I did.” Jerry Yang. When it came down to heads-up play, the 2007 WSOP winner called his opponent’s all-in bet with pocket eights. His opponent turned over A-Q off-suit, and the race was on. The flop brought a Q and Jerry fell behind, but the turn gave him some outs as he’d developed a gut-shot straight draw. The miraculous river card was a 6 which completed his straight, and Jerry let out an ecstatic scream as he was crowned champion of the Main Event
